The Waldron Shale Project - Teacher Workshop

  • June 14, 2017
  • 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM
  • Bellarmine University, Louisville

Dear Teachers,

We would like to introduce you to the Waldron Shale Project, an educational collaboration between the Falls of the Ohio State Park and Bellarmine University that makes science exciting for students. This classroom initiative allows students to identify fossils using inquiry-based learning and contributes real data for scientists to use in their research!

Students will partner with scientists to investigate the nature of the 425 million year old fossils that originate from the Waldron Shale from Clark County, Indiana.

Your students will be able to:

·    Discover fossils within provided shale materials

·    Use resources to identify their finds

·    Document fossil discoveries with graphs, charts, reports and an optional classroom museum

·    Share the data with scientists, parents, amateur paleontologists, and other classes involved in the project

This email announces our upcoming professional development workshop. It is free and PD credit can be made available if needed. Because the purpose of the workshop is to train how to do the Waldron Shale Project, attendance is required to use the WSP in your classroom.
